WBEZ Chicago partners with Coleman Foundation, Greater Chicago Food Depository for holiday initiatives

CHICAGO (Nov. 14, 2017) – Joining hundreds of Illinois nonprofits, WBEZ Chicago will recognize the global #GivingTuesday movement by participating in the #ILGive campaign, which encourages people to give back to Illinois nonprofit organizations by donating, volunteering or starting a fundraising campaign. Since its inception in 2012, participation in #GivingTuesday has spread to 98 countries, raising more than $177 million to support a broad range of organizations in 2016.

This year on #GivingTuesday– Nov. 28 –the Coleman Foundation will generously sponsor a $10,000 challenge aimed at encouraging listeners to support the insightful journalism and thought-provoking entertainment programming found on Chicago’s public radio station.

On Friday, Dec. 1, WBEZ is partnering with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to help fight hunger in Chicago and Cook County. As part of WBEZ’s December fundraising campaign, for every person who donates to WBEZ between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Dec. 1, the equivalent of 10 meals will be donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. WBEZ’s goal is to reach 1,000 participants in this timeframe in order to provide 10,000 meals to those in need this holiday season.

“#GivingTuesday, #ILGive and our partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository are initiatives that bring our nonprofit community together and exemplify the impact that collaborative efforts can have in the Chicagoland area and throughout the world,” said Kassie Stephenson, vice president of membership and marketing for WBEZ Chicago. “We are sincerely grateful for every donation made to WBEZ and all organizations doing good during the holiday giving season.”
